Hand tools already existed in the age of the Neanderthals. Back then, stones and branches were worked in such a way that they could be used as hand tools. Hand tools such as hammers, brushes and saws were invented over 2.4 million years ago. Many of the Stone Age tools are still in use today. Many other tools (trowels, spatulas, etc.) were only invented a few centuries / decades ago. There is an appropriate tool for every work process / every action. For example, a nail can only be hammered into the wall with the right hammer.
Some hand tools (hammer, pliers, metre rule, spirit level) should be in every toolbox. When buying a hand tool, you should also pay particular attention to the quality. If the quality or workmanship is poor, the tool may break after just a few days and you will have to buy a new one. An investment in high quality is worthwhile!
Hand tools are
The hammer (tile hammer design art. no. 10155) is one of the oldest hand tools in the world. The range of tasks performed by the hammer has been continually extended through constant improvements in design and construction. The hammer traditionally consists of the head and the handle, which are firmly connected to each other. It is essential that the hammer is robust. This is important for safety.
Different hammers for different applications:
Levelling compounds (concrete mortar Art. No. 11454, levelling compound Art. No. 11452 - 11453) are mostly used for levelling loose materials. The material (e.g. levelling compound) is applied, spread and then smoothed. A putty knife can also be used to remove materials such as wallpaper and carpets.
There are a few differences between trowels and spatulas. The trowel is often not as flexible and has a triangular or square basic shape. A trowel is used to apply mortar and is also used when laying tiles.
Dispensing guns (also known as cartridges) are used for liquid to viscous materials that need to be precisely positioned. A mortar gun (mortar gun art. no. 11619) can also be used to ensure targeted dosing. This optimises the work process and makes more economical use of the substances.
A knife is particularly suitable:
The blades of the cutter knife can be retracted after cutting and broken off after heavy wear. When all the individual parts of the blade have been used up, a new blade can be inserted. Different blades and grinds are required for different processing materials. Depending on the area of use and the requirements placed on the knife, the tools differ in terms of the blade's length, shape, material, elasticity and grind.
Saws (hand saws) are available in many variants for every conceivable application. A saw cuts a material by chipping. The sawdust is gradually removed until the material is cut through. Before purchasing, you should consider which material you want to work with.
The harder the surface of the material, the more notches the file should have. The shape and size of the file should also be taken into account.
