Silicone syringes and cartridge guns

Cartridge guns (also known as cartridge presses or silicone syringes) are tools that can be used to squeeze out silicone cartridges (or foil bags), for example.

The silicone syringes and their areas of application

Cartridge guns (example: item no. 11575 cartridge gun COX, 600 ml) are mainly used in the construction industry or in the sealing sector for sanitary facilities and for smaller applications. The silicone syringes and cartridge guns are used to inject or press adhesives, silicone and other jointing materials into joints or cavities. With cartridge guns, it is important to ensure that the selected cartridges can be inserted in their standard filling quantities. It should also be ensured that the piston used to press out the cartridge enables a continuous pressing process. This allows the grout to be optimally dispensed.

Function of silicone syringes and cartridge guns

The cartridge is inserted into the cartridge gun from above. By pressing the hand lever, a rod is pressed against the base of the cartridge from behind. This causes the base to move inside the cartridge. The material in the cartridge is pressed out of the front of the nozzle. A retaining bar prevents the rod from slipping back. However, it can be released to remove an empty cartridge.

Buying cartridge guns - keep an eye out when buying!

When you buy a silicone sprayer or cartridge gun, you should definitely pay attention to the workmanship and quality. If you regularly work with cartridge guns, you should not buy a cheap product, as these are usually no longer usable after a few cartridges.

As you can see, there are a few things to consider when buying a cartridge gun. A few examples are: which areas of application, how often the gun will be used and much more.

There are different categories of cartridge gun design:

  • Cartridge guns with and without rack designed as a half-shell: These are very stable.
  • Cartridge guns with tube: These cartridge guns have a screw cap. The cartridges are inserted from the front.
  • Skeleton guns: These consist of a thin frame made of plastic or metal.

Cartridge guns are also divided into different categories according to the origin of the force exerted to squeeze out the adhesive or sealant:

  • Battery pistols: Available in two different versions - half-shell or with tube
  • Compressed air pistols: These are only available with a tube. Either compressed air acts directly on the cartridge base from behind or the air indirectly presses a telescopic piston / pressure rod with pressure plate onto the cartridge base.
  • Manual pressure guns: Higher transmission ratios require a more stable gun design and are therefore only available in higher-quality models.

The mortar gun

The mortar gun (example: item no. 11619 mortar gun Karl Dahm in a set) is used for grouting brickwork and natural stone walls. The grout is filled directly into the tube of the grout gun (in contrast to the cartridge guns). Individual nozzle selection is possible with these guns. This allows you to dose and apply the joint sealant right down to the depth. Fast and clean work is guaranteed!

The caulking gun

The caulking gun (item no. 11578 caulking gun for loose material, 400 ml) is perfect for filling joints, gaps and cracks. The choice of pressure and different nozzles means that the optimum amount of joint sealant is always applied. The joint gun can complement the use of a joint trowel. The advantages of the caulking gun are fast, targeted and high-quality grouting and filling of cracks and gaps, clean working with little cleaning effort, optimum grouting of deep cavities and low waste.

Compressed air and battery operation

Example: Item no. 40617 Cordless caulking gun with Li technology, 600 ml

Anyone who has ever worked with a hand-operated cartridge gun knows the difficulties involved. Even loading the gun is cumbersome and usually involves the material running everywhere. It is also very difficult to regulate an even squeeze-out pressure. It is therefore definitely worth considering purchasing a professional device. This will ensure that your joints are even.

Special professional drives are available to enable you to work quickly and effortlessly. Deep cavities and joints can be filled with a compressed air drive. You can also work quickly with battery-powered caulking guns. However, the forces exerted are lower than with a compressed air drive. However, battery-powered drives are easier to handle as no compressed air cylinder, hoses or other accessories are required.
